New Grants for Welsh Farmers

6th January 2017

New grant announced for farmers in Wales for 40% grants of up to £12,000 to be able to invest in around 80 items linked to:

  • Animal health, genetics and performance
  • Crop management
  • Energy efficiency
  • Resource efficiency
  • ICT

The list of capital items which can be funded under the grant has been put together by the Welsh Government and farming unions with standardised specifications and costs.

Lesley Griffiths, Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Rural Affairs, says “This is undoubtedly a boost for Welsh farming at a time when there is a lot of uncertainty about what the future holds following the UK’s decision to leave the EU. The new support I am announcing today will be of considerable assistance as our farmers begin to consider how best to shape their businesses to thrive in a post-Brexit world.

The scheme open in April and although very little information is available at the moment, things look hopeful for Welsh farmers. The Glastir Small Grants Scheme Water grant is out now and open to applications until 23rd January with grants available for a range of things such as

  • Hedgerow planting, coppicing, gapping up and hedgelaying
  • Cross drains, kerbing, sleeping policemen, guttering and downpipes
  • In-ditch wetland, engineering of river banks, pond restoration
  • Relocation of sheep dips and sheep pens
  • Maintenance of gateways (hardcore)
