Welsh Government Announcement to Support Dairy Farmers Welcomed

9th May 2020

We have welcomed the Welsh Government’s announcement this morning to help support dairy farmers overcome the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

Rural Affair’s Minister, Lesley Griffiths, has announced funding for Welsh dairy farmers hardest hit by the recent exceptional market conditions as a result of coronavirus.

To support the sector during these challenging times, the Minister has confirmed eligible dairy farmers, who have lost more than 25% of their income in April and May, will be entitled to up to £10,000 to cover 70% of their lost income. This will help ensure they can continue to operate without impacting animal welfare and the environment.

Richard Corbett, Partner with Roger Parry & Partners said, “This announcement is good news and much needed for Welsh dairy farmers who have been left to struggle, in an extremely vulnerable position, because of the impact of Covid19 on the marketplace. This news comes just days after the Westminster Government announced a support package for English dairy farmers.”

In her statement, the Rural Affairs Minister said further details of the scheme will be announced shortly and that she would continue to work closely with the dairy sector to help them address the issues they face at this difficult time.

Richard added, “Our offices might not be open at present but we are still here to help our clients. Please get in touch if you require advice or assistance from our team of experts with your application.”
