Grants for on-farm reservoirs

20th October 2017

DEFRA have launched a new Water Resource Management grant for reservoirs under the Rural Development Programme for England. The grants are available for arable and horticultural businesses in England and aim to increase the efficiency of water use for irrigation and secure water supplies on farm by building reservoirs.

The Scheme will pay 40% towards the eligible costs of the on-farm reservoir, starting at £35,000 with no upper limit.

If you’re looking to increase your irrigation area, or perhaps start growing potatoes or carrots, this grant may be of some use to you to ease the financial burden of a reservoir.

Eligible costs include construction of the reservoir (above or below ground), associated infrastructure, innovative water application equipment such as boom irrigators, software and sensors; and construction engineer fees.

The deadline for applications is 3rd April 2018, although planning permission and abstraction licenses must be approved beforehand, meaning there isn’t much time to hang about.
