The lure of a new lifestyle, one that is quieter and has an abundance of beautiful countryside and more outdoor space, has led to more city dwellers choosing to become rural residents according to new figures from Rightmove.
We have seen for ourselves a marked increase in the amount of enquiries we are receiving for properties in Shropshire and mid-Wales and are urging those considering selling to put their property on the market.
Across June and July, the number of buyer enquiries from people living in ten UK cities increased by 78% compared to the same period last year. The breakdown of where they are enquiring shows village locations up by 126% and town locations up by 68%.
Peter Daborn, Partner said, “We have seen a noticeable increase in interest in country properties since the property market started back up. Properties with large gardens or a couple of acres are selling as soon as they come onto the market.”
Peter continued, “After the Chancellor’s announcement last month to increase the Stamp Duty threshold to £500,000, nine out of ten main home buyers will pay no SDLT at all in England and in Wales properties valued at between £180,000 and £250,000 are exempt from paying the Land Transaction Tax until the end of March 2021. There’s never been a better time to buy or sell!”
According to Rightmove’s latest statistics, the number of enquiries from Liverpool residents looking for a village lifestyle has almost tripled (+275%) compared to last year. Birmingham, up 186% and Manchester up 79%.
