James was brought up on a family farm at Llanfair Caereinion, where he now lives and jointly runs with his brother. He attended Llanfair Caereinion High school before undertaking a degree at Harper Adams University College in rural enterprise and land management. Following graduation he spent two and a half years with Frank Marshall & Company in Cheshire, during which time he qualified as a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

James has extensive experience in auctioneering, letting land, undertaking valuations and compensation claims. He also deals with all other types of agricultural and rural property work including the single payment scheme, planning, environmental schemes, tenancy matters and utility company compensation issues.

In his spare time James enjoys running a flock of pedigree Texel sheep, being an active member of Llanfair young farmers club and playing football for Llanfair United FC.
