Current trading
Normal Entitlements (England)
A unit of normal entitlement gives the holder the right to claim a unit of subsidy when matched against a corresponding area of land within the farmer’s management control.
80% of the value must have been claimed and the entitlement must be free of any other usage restriction before it can be traded.
The RPA require a 6-week notification period before transfer.

Authorisations
When attached to a unit of entitlement authorisations allow the value of subsidy to be released when match against land being used for ‘horticultural crops’.

Set aside
A restrictive entitlement that carries set aside management obligations. The holder must claim against these before any normal entitlement. Some farmers wish to free themselves from the restrictions and will look to trade these away, paying others to take them.

Welsh Entitlements & Authorisations
Similar to their English equivalent the entitlements will either to normal (with the possibility of authorisations) or set aside. Welsh entitlements bare reference only to the historical amount from which they are derived.
